Who This Is For

ADHD looks different on Long Island.

Long Island's school districts are among the most academically competitive in New York State. In Great Neck, Syosset, Jericho, Manhasset, Cold Spring Harbor, and Roslyn, the pressure to perform is high and the margin for "different" is narrow. For a kid with ADHD in one of these districts, the environment can be brutal -- not because they're not smart enough, but because the system runs on executive function, and ADHD disrupts exactly that.

The same is true across Nassau County communities like Garden City, Rockville Centre, Mineola, Plainview, East Meadow, Massapequa, and Wantagh -- and throughout Suffolk County in Huntington, Commack, Smithtown, Northport, Cold Spring Harbor, Dix Hills, and Hauppauge. Wherever you are on the island, the story tends to be the same: smart kid, high-performing school, widening gap between potential and output.

Most Long Island families have already tried tutoring. Many have tried therapy. What's harder to find is someone who works specifically on the gap between knowing and doing -- on why a bright kid can ace a verbal conversation about the project and still not turn it in. That's what ADHD coaching addresses.

All sessions are virtual. No commute, no parking, no driving to the city. You meet over video from wherever you are on Long Island.

The Long Island ADHD Gap

There are plenty of tutors. Coaches are harder to find.

Long Island has no shortage of academic tutors, therapists, and learning specialists. What's genuinely scarce is someone who works on the layer underneath all of that: why a kid who understands the material still can't organize their binder, why an adult who knows exactly what they need to do still can't make themselves start.

That's the ADHD problem. It's not a knowledge problem. It's an execution problem -- a gap between intention and action that's neurological in origin and requires a different kind of intervention to address. That's what ADHD coaching does.

There's also an evaluation gap. Neuropsychological assessments on Long Island often have waitlists of several months or more. If your child's school recommended an evaluation, you may be waiting a long time before anything official happens. Coaching doesn't require a formal diagnosis to start -- if the patterns are there, we can work on them now while the evaluation process runs in the background. Many Long Island families do exactly this.

Jordan is a licensed mental health counselor who also conducts neuropsychological evaluations through his therapy practice at jordanschatz.work for clients in New York and New Jersey -- which means he can help families navigate the full picture, not just the coaching piece.

Services

Three kinds of work. Same approach.

For Parents

You're in the room for every battle. Parent coaching changes how you read the situation and what you do next — fewer power struggles, better communication, a framework that actually holds.

Family Coaching →

For Teens

Middle school and high school are when the gap gets widest. Teen coaching builds the self-awareness and executive function skills that school requires and almost never teaches.

Teen Coaching →

For Adults

You've been managing ADHD without a name for it, or without the right tools. Coaching for adults builds systems that actually match how your brain operates.

Why Virtual Works

You don't need to drive to get good coaching.

One of the most common things Long Island parents say is that the providers they actually want are in the city, and getting there means the LIE, the LIRR, or an hour of driving they just don't have. Virtual coaching solves that problem entirely. Sessions happen over video. You can be at your kitchen table in Huntington or Great Neck or Massapequa. Your teen can be in their room. Nothing about the quality of the work changes -- and you don't lose two hours of your day getting there and back.

For teens especially, virtual works well. There's no transition ritual, no "I don't want to go," no logistical barrier between them and the session. You pull up a video call, and it starts.

About Jordan
Jordan Schatz, ADHD Family Consultant, serving Long Island

Jordan Schatz, LMHC-LP

I'm a licensed mental health counselor and ADHD Family Consultant based in Brooklyn. I work with kids, teens, adults, and parents across New York — including families throughout Long Island who don't want to wait for a local opening or drive into the city to get good support.

I built this practice because I kept seeing the same gap: smart people doing everything right and still struggling, because the approach they were given wasn't built for how their brain works. I was that kid. The name isn't branding. It's a description.

Questions

Before you reach out.

Do you offer ADHD coaching on Long Island?
Yes. Jordan works with families across Long Island -- Nassau County, Suffolk County, and throughout New York State -- through virtual sessions. All coaching happens over video, so there's no commute. You get the same quality of support without driving into the city or waiting for a local provider to have availability.
Do I have to travel to Brooklyn for sessions?
No. All coaching sessions are virtual. You meet over video from wherever you are -- your home, your office, anywhere with a decent connection. For Long Island families, this matters: you don't need to add a round trip to the city on top of everything else already on your plate.
Is ADHD coaching available for kids and teens on Long Island?
Yes. Jordan works directly with teens ages 13 and up, and with parents of younger children through parent coaching. Long Island's school districts are academically demanding, and kids with ADHD in competitive environments face a particular kind of pressure -- the gap between their potential and their output becomes very visible, very early. Coaching addresses that gap directly, building the executive function skills that school requires and rarely teaches.
How is ADHD coaching different from the tutors and therapists already on Long Island?
Tutors work on content. Therapists work on emotional health. ADHD coaching works on execution -- why your child can't start the assignment they understand perfectly well, why they lose everything, why they can't manage time despite knowing what time it is. It's a different layer of the problem, and one that tutoring and therapy alone rarely solve. Because Jordan is also a licensed therapist, he can help families figure out which type of support makes the most sense and navigate that conversation honestly.
My child's school recommended an evaluation. Can coaching help in the meantime?
Yes, and often significantly. Neuropsychological evaluations on Long Island can have long waitlists. Coaching doesn't require a formal diagnosis to start -- if the patterns are there, we can work on them. A diagnosis gives useful information, but it doesn't change what needs to happen day to day. Many families start coaching while the evaluation is pending and use the results to refine the approach once they arrive.
What areas of Long Island do you serve?
Because all sessions are virtual, Jordan works with families throughout Long Island -- Nassau County, Suffolk County, and anywhere else on the island. He also works with families across New York State and virtually nationwide. Location is not a barrier.
Is ADHD coaching covered by insurance?
Coaching is not covered by insurance -- it's a private-pay service. Jordan's therapy practice at jordanschatz.work accepts out-of-network benefits for therapy services if that applies to your family. If cost is a concern, it's worth raising on the intro call so you can make a clear decision before committing.
How do I get started with ADHD coaching on Long Island?
Book a free 30-minute intro call. No commitment. You'll talk about what's going on, what you've already tried, and whether coaching makes sense for where your family is right now. If it's a fit, you'll schedule your first session. If it's not, Jordan will tell you that honestly and point you toward what might help more.
