In Great Neck, Syosset, Jericho, Manhasset, Cold Spring Harbor, and Roslyn, the pressure to perform is high and the margin for "different" is narrow. For a kid with ADHD in one of these districts, the environment can be brutal -- not because they're not smart enough, but because the system runs on executive function, and ADHD disrupts exactly that.
The same is true across Nassau County communities like Garden City, Rockville Centre, Mineola, Plainview, East Meadow, Massapequa, and Wantagh -- and throughout Suffolk County in Huntington, Commack, Smithtown, Northport, Cold Spring Harbor, Dix Hills, and Hauppauge. Wherever you are on the island, the story tends to be the same: smart kid, high-performing school, widening gap between potential and output.
Most Long Island families have already tried tutoring. Many have tried therapy. What's harder to find is someone who works specifically on the gap between knowing and doing -- on why a bright kid can ace a verbal conversation about the project and still not turn it in. That's what ADHD coaching addresses.
All sessions are virtual. No commute, no parking, no driving to the city. You meet over video from wherever you are on Long Island.
Long Island has no shortage of academic tutors, therapists, and learning specialists. What's genuinely scarce is someone who works on the layer underneath all of that: why a kid who understands the material still can't organize their binder, why an adult who knows exactly what they need to do still can't make themselves start.
That's the ADHD problem. It's not a knowledge problem. It's an execution problem -- a gap between intention and action that's neurological in origin and requires a different kind of intervention to address. That's what ADHD coaching does.
There's also an evaluation gap. Neuropsychological assessments on Long Island often have waitlists of several months or more. If your child's school recommended an evaluation, you may be waiting a long time before anything official happens. Coaching doesn't require a formal diagnosis to start -- if the patterns are there, we can work on them now while the evaluation process runs in the background. Many Long Island families do exactly this.
Jordan is a licensed mental health counselor who also conducts neuropsychological evaluations through his therapy practice at jordanschatz.work for clients in New York and New Jersey -- which means he can help families navigate the full picture, not just the coaching piece.
You're in the room for every battle. Parent coaching changes how you read the situation and what you do next — fewer power struggles, better communication, a framework that actually holds.
Family Coaching →Middle school and high school are when the gap gets widest. Teen coaching builds the self-awareness and executive function skills that school requires and almost never teaches.
Teen Coaching →You've been managing ADHD without a name for it, or without the right tools. Coaching for adults builds systems that actually match how your brain operates.
Adult Coaching →One of the most common things Long Island parents say is that the providers they actually want are in the city, and getting there means the LIE, the LIRR, or an hour of driving they just don't have. Virtual coaching solves that problem entirely. Sessions happen over video. You can be at your kitchen table in Huntington or Great Neck or Massapequa. Your teen can be in their room. Nothing about the quality of the work changes -- and you don't lose two hours of your day getting there and back.
For teens especially, virtual works well. There's no transition ritual, no "I don't want to go," no logistical barrier between them and the session. You pull up a video call, and it starts.
I'm a licensed mental health counselor and ADHD Family Consultant based in Brooklyn. I work with kids, teens, adults, and parents across New York — including families throughout Long Island who don't want to wait for a local opening or drive into the city to get good support.
I built this practice because I kept seeing the same gap: smart people doing everything right and still struggling, because the approach they were given wasn't built for how their brain works. I was that kid. The name isn't branding. It's a description.
